Lectures (10 hours), group discussions (16 hours) and laboratory exercises (20 hours). |
Indhold: |
The goal of the course is to give the students insights in techniques which allow gene targeting at the DNA or RNA level. These new principles include: Antisense technology, RNA interference, Gene therapy, DNA vaccine, Antigene technology, Gene repair and Ribozyme technology. Several of these technologies have been around for more than ten years (e.g. antisense, gene therapy, DNA vaccines and ribozyme technology) and numerous clinical trials have been performed and are still ongoing (in particular in the areas of antisense drugs and gene therapy). The course also includes supporting molecular biology (gene technology), genetic (genetic diseases that may be treated using genetic medicine), cell biology, pharmacogenomics and bioinformatics disciplines (in vivo techniques). The course is administrated by the phd-school in Genetic Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Lectures, classroom sessions and experimental exercises will be held by teachers from the phd-school. |
Kompetence- beskrivelse: |
Theoretical and practical understanding of the principles of gene targeting in genetic medicine and accompanying molecular biology and biotechnology. The knowledge gained will give the student theoretical and some experimental tools to participate in medical research projects. |
