Undervisnings- form: The module is based on interdisciplinary teaching and problem-oriented learning. Both lectures and group work are important components. Group work will mainly be used in relation to specific case studies. Students are expected to participate actively in the teaching process. During journal clubs, students will learn how to review and scrutinize scientific articles on health systems research. Students will furthermore be asked to prepare and present an essay on a pending subject relevant for the analysis of health care systems. The essay of max 1500-2000 words, which will be developed in groups, will be facilitated by a lecturer.
Formål: To enable students to analyse health care systems of low- and middle income societies in a historical, cultural, organizational, economical and political context with an interdisciplinary perspective. To analyse barriers and prospects for implementation of health care services in low income societies through case studies. To critically evaluate strategies for prevention and disease control with a specific focus on the functioning of health care systems in the wider socio-political context. To develop and present (orally and in writing) a substantiated analysis of selected aspects of health care systems based on case studies and/or critical reading of articles.
Indhold: Health systems analysis, Medical anthropology, Political Science, Management & Organisation, Health Economics. Apart from those 5 themes studens are presented to 2-3 case studies and a number of visits to relevant health institutions like WHO and SSI.

Formelle krav: The applicants must live up to the Master of International Health admission criteria.
Eksamensform: Individual written examination (4 hours). Grading according to the Danish 7-scale - external moderation.

Bemærkninger: This is an optional advanced course in the Master of International Health programme. Accredited 2001 in Budapest; re-accredited 2007 in Stockholm. This accreditation is valid until September 2012. The number of participants is limited to 40. The course may be cancelled if there are less than 12 participants. Fee I (reduced fee - EU/EEA, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship, DIS, Fulbright): DKK 28,000 / EUR 3,785 Fee II (normal fee - all other students): DKK 39,425 / EUR 5,323 Fees in Euro include a 16 EUR exchange fee. All fees are subject to regulation. Scholarships: We currently do not offer any scholarships, but on our site about funding possibilities we have collected some information that might be useful.
