| Indhold: |
This course focuses on the qualitative methods that are used in the study of cultural phenomena. In class, we will reflect on fieldwork, participant observation, document analysis and interviews as practices that define ethnology and anthropology. What is the empirical basis for ethnological analyses? What is ethnography? What are qualitative data? These and other seemingly simple questions will be central, and the overall idea is to explore how material for ethnological analyses emerges as a combination between different techniques of collecting empirical data, analytical strategies, research interests and theoretical reflections. Furthermore, the course addresses ethical issues related to undertaking qualitative research and writing about the lives of others. Students are required to conduct fieldwork exercises in groups, and make presentations in class, with the aim of jointly discussing how ethnological material comes to be through methodological choices. |

Skriftlig rapport og mundtlig eksamination, ekstern censur, bedømmes gradueret efter 7-trinsskalaen. |
