Indhold: Kiswahili for beginners will give the students a good introduction to the language both spoken and in written form, and will enable the students to understand a simple daily Kiswahili conversation. The main objective of the course is to give the students written and oral skills in Kiswahili, as well as to broaden their knowledge of the language and enable them to express themselves understandably in Kiswahili. Working with the relevant texts and dialogues will give the students competencies within text analysis, and at the same time provide a deeper understanding of the African way of life, details of which are clearly described in the texts and dialogues. The students will acquire a broad understanding of the culture and history, which is a key element to their comprehension of the language. Students will acquire the ability to translate Kiswahili to English at an introductory level and vice versa, as well as be able to identify the most important differences in the two languages. Kiswahili teaching will also include grammar explanation, pronunciation, and reading and listening comprehension strategies.
