Semesterangivelse: Forår og Efterår

Udgave: Forår 2013 NAT
Omfang: Minimum 7,5 ECTS-points
Uddannelsesdel: Kandidat niveau
Formål: The individual project should develop the students ability to work independently on a scientific physics related problem or topic. The project is supervised by a scientist at either NBI or similar external institution. The content could be either in the form of a small research project or in the form of a review of existing knowledge within a given subject. The course strengthens the writing and/or oral presentation skills of the students, because it assessed by a written report and/or a seminar given by the student.
Indhold: After the students has found a supervisor, the precise topic of the project is defined by the student and the supervisor together (in case of small research project, the supervisor must keep in mind that the workload is equivalent to 7.5 ECTS). The project could be used as a warm-up exercise to the master thesis, but it could also deal with a different topic all together. In the beginning of the project the student and the supervisor makes an outline of the expected work plan, including a list of literature to read and issues for the student to investigate. At the end of the project the student writes a report (typically 10-15 pages) and/or presents the content of the report in seminar at the institute.
Målbeskrivelse:
To pass the course the student must show that she/he can:
  • Independently understand and use modern physics
  • Collect information from the scientific literature
  • Compose a written report that clearly explains the findings of the project and/or
  • Give a seminar that on a relatively simply level explains the fundamental physics of the findings or review presented in the report
  • Tilmelding: Please contact the head of studies at the Niels Bohr Institute
Eksamensform: The course is graded pass or fail. The grading is done by the supervisor and an internal censor.
