Indhold: The course will give an introduction to how our biological makeup influences the film experience. The first part of the course will describe how the themes in films for children, romantic films and pornography, action-adventure films, horror films and tragic melodramas may be explained by means of cognitive and evolutionary psychology. The second part of the course will describe general features of the film experience in relation to our biological makeup, and focus on narrative and interaction, character simulation, art film narration and the experience of realism. The course will furthermore discuss the relation between what is culturally determined and what is determined by our biology. The course will use film examples and be based on Torben Grodal: Embodied Visions and will further refer to basic texts within evolutionary theory, neuroscience, and cognitive psychology.
