Udgave: Forår 2013 NAT
Point: 7,5
Skemagruppe: B1
Uddannelsesdel: Kandidat niveau

Undervisnings- form: 14 Faculty lectures/research talks (see Skema) 5 Student lecture sessions (student oral presentations)
Formål: The specific aims of the course will be for students to 1) learn a broad range of experimental models applied to study disease pathogenesis and altered physiologic function, 2) develop creative skills in research innovation by exploring novel study models, 3) construct a fundable research proposal based on relevant background literature, including study aims, experimental design, hypotheses and expected outcomes.
Indhold: This candidate course focuses on experimental methods and research models used to study common chronic diseases. Lectures from experts in various disciplines will expose students to practical experimental models and methods currently applied to study the underlying mechanisms involved in altered physiological function in various disease states. Students will learn about various laboratory and evidence-based research approaches from the molecule-to-system level including molecular, cell, animal and human experiments undertaken to advance our understanding of pathophysiological processes on a variety of topics. Students will also gain practical experience in formulating and constructing a formal research grant proposal on a specific topic based on a review of the literature and development of a research study plan.
Lærebøger: Reference material will be posted on ‘Absalon’ website when appropriate. For further background reading on relevant topics in pathophysiology we recommend that students access the following text: Robbins and Cotran; Pathophysiological Basis of Disease, 8th Edition. Kumar, Abbas, Fausto Eds. 2005.
Faglige forudsætninger: Open to Master’s students in Molecular Biomedicine and from the Faculty of Natural Sciences who have completed their bachelor studies. Students with similar competencies may be allowed admission (decided by the course leaders).
Eksamensform: All students are encouraged to attend all scheduled lectures. Students will be evaluated by the course leaders and an independent censor on
1) the quality of their written research proposal evaluated by the course leaders and censor,
2) the quality of the oral presentation during an open lecture to the class on their proposed research study.
Written Research Proposal = 60%
Oral Presentation = 40%
Reexam: New written research proposal and an oral exam.
Internal graded according to the Danish 7-step-scale.
Examination rules for the Faculty of Health Sciences
In order to be eligible for re-examination at the Faculty’s courses, you must have made an attempt at the ordinary exam. An attempt is defined as a personal appearance, where you hand in an empty exam paper/assignment, or by presenting a signed doctor’s certificate no later than 3 days after the exam.
