| Indhold: |
REINCARNATION AND RETIREMENT: TIBETAN LANGUAGE DOCUMENTS ON DALAI LAMA POLITICS. In this course we will read Tibetan language materials related to the Dalai Lama's "semi-retirement" in 2001 followed by his devolution of power in 2011 and investigate how it is possible for the Dalai Lama to retire from political office while maintaining religious authority as well as remaining the head of Ganden Phodrang. Furthermore, we delve into the related issue of his future reincarnation, an issue that became especially topical in 2007 when the Chinese government announced a new measurement for regulating the discovery and installation of reincarnated lamas.
We read documents related to these two issues, and apart from enhancing language skills, we also train our eye for locating and understanding the structure and relevance of argument in these texts. This language course complements the content course "Tibet organised and imagined from exile".
