Indhold: |
This course will use a lecture and discussion format to present an introduction to the geographical and historical landscape of past and present Southeast Asia. This will cover the countries of Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines and East Timor. With this background, the themes of the region’s early history, colonial period and era of independence will be considered. The goals of the course are to help students become aware of this region and in particular to gain an appreciation for its great diversity. This course will provide the foundation for more advanced modules on specific issues in the subsequent years of study. Students are expected to actively participate in class. |
