Samlet oversigt over tid og sted for alle kurser inden for Lektionsplan for Det Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet Efterår 2012 NAT
Undervisnings- periode: Week 36-44 and week 47-51 and 1-3
Undervisnings- form: The form of teaching and work will be class teaching with active participation of students by means of student presentations, group-work etc. and a field trip.
Indhold: Dynamic processes, sediment transport and morphological response in coastal, estuarine and fluvial environments. This will include transport of both cohesive and non-cohesive sediments; Stratigraphy and formation of coastal and estuarine landscapes; Field-methods in sediment dynamics and marine studies; Coastal response to sea level fluctuations and climate change; Relative and numerical chronology; Palaeo-geographic reconstructions; Case-studies from different climatic zones.
Kompetence- beskrivelse: The aim of the course is to provide a broad basis for studies of sediment transport, geomorphological processes and landforms in aquatic and aeolian environments and to understand their responses to sea level fluctuations and climate change. At the end of the course the student will have an understanding of the most important sediment transport processes in coastal, coastal dune, estuarine, and fluvial environments and associated landforms and stratigraphy. The student will understand the importance of observations and hypothesis testing and should be able to design studies within the field of sediment transport and geomorphology. The student will have knowledge about strengths and weaknesses associated with common methods and analysis procedures used within this field of research and should be able to make a professional-style oral presentation and back it up by a short, concise report.
Målbeskrivelse: Upon completion of the course, students should possess knowledge on a broad range of disciplines within sediment transport in fluvial, coastal, estuarine and marine environments and related sedimentary deposits. Specifically, the students should be able to
  • read scientific literature related to the course-subjects.
  • critically evaluate methods and collections of data and to design smaller research projects.
  • use correct scientific definitions and terms.
  • analyse and discuss data-sets from studies of sediment transport and sedimentary deposits.
  • assess effects and risks of possible sea level fluctuations and climate change on coastal landscapes and rivers.
  • give a short, concise and well-illustrated oral presentation on the basis of scientific papers.
  • write a short, concise report aimed at colleagues within the business world, public institutions or research institutions.
  • Tilmelding: Via Selvbetjeningen på KUnet mellem den 15. maj og 1. juni.
Ansøgningsfrist for Åbent Universitet: June 10
