Undervisnings- periode: Uge 6-12 og 14
Undervisnings- form: The form of teaching is a combination of lectures, seminars and student presentations.
Indhold: The Global Value Chain (GVC) approach (governance, institutions and upgrading); quality and standards in GVCs; corporate social responsibility in GVCs; small-scale producers in GVCs; policy implications; fieldwork methods.
Kompetence- beskrivelse: The course aims to provide on overview of economic-geographical globalisation processes analysed within a GVC perspective. Focus is on GVCs linking developing countries and industrialised countries. At the end of the course the student should understand the strengths and limitations of GVC analysis. The student should also demonstrate ability to discuss theoretical and empirical contributions within the GVC approach. Further, the student should be able to assess various policy initiatives in relation to upgrading of industrial activities in developing countries. Finally, the student should be able to make an oral presentation (academic style) and write a short, concise synopsis on a selected subject.
Målbeskrivelse: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
• Explain the content of the basic elements in a GVC
• Demonstrate knowledge of the main actors and governance mechanisms in GVCs
• Assess recent theoretical and methodological contributions related to development of the GVC approach
• Outline significant development tendencies in various GVCs, notably with regard to possibilities for upgrading of companies in developing countries
• Apply theoretical and empirical insight in assessing policy recommendations focused on upgrading
• Demonstrate basic ability to implement a GVC analysis
Tilmelding: Via KUnet mellem den 15. november og 1. december.
Eksamensform: Written report and oral examination, internal examiner, grading according to the 7-point grading scale. The examination takes 20 minutes including grading. Make-up exam as ordinary exam. The student will have a chance to improve a not passed report and resubmit it.
Eksamen: Aflevering af skriftlig opgave d. 3. april og mundtlig prøve d. 10. april 2013.
Reeksamen: Aflevering af skriftilg opgave d. 24. juni og mundtlig prøve d. 27. juni 2013.
