Undervisnings- periode: Uge 6-12 og 14
Undervisnings- form: The form of teaching is class teaching mixed with lectures and student presentations
Indhold: Advanced GIS
Kompetence- beskrivelse: GIS represents the backbone for many tasks related to urban and regional spatial analysis and planning. GIS facilitates the practical implementations of methods and algorithms that benefit from the large amount of available digital maps and registers. Recent development trends show an increased public and private awareness of the geospatial component of management and planning tasks. Advanced knowledge of potentials and also pitfalls of doing GIS-based spatial analysis and optimization enables geographers with GIS/geoinformatics competence to play a key role in this process. Moreover, the technology for disseminating geospatial data through the internet using web-based GIS is offering a quantum leap for shared and distributed use of geographic data and information. This fact is recognized by many municipalities and organizations adding a new string to the job opportunities of GIS-oriented geographers. The overall aim is to bring the participants an understanding of the relevant theories and methodologies necessary to select appropriate strategies for spatial analysis within the broad context of urban and regional geography as well as to select appropriate internet-based dissemination strategies.. The theoretical background will be discussed and the practical implementation will be tried out in practical exercises
Målbeskrivelse: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to
• identify strategies and methodologies and to solve scientific problems in the research field
• possess a theoretical and pratical knowledge of the research field
• integrate theory, methodology, data and interpretation, and to demonstrate the ability to evaluate new information critically.
Tilmelding: Via KUnet mellem den 15. november og 1. december.
Faglige forudsætninger: Participants are assumed to have a basic knowledge of GIS concepts. It is beneficial - although not a requirement - to have knowledge of relevant basic data sources equal to the level provided by the bachelor-level course ”GIS i planlægning og forvaltning”.
Eksamensform: Written report and oral examamination, internal examiner, grading according to the 7-point grading scale. The exam takes 20 min including grading. Make-up exam as ordinary exam. The student will have a chance to improve a not passed report and resubmit it.
Eksamen: Aflevering af skriftlig opgave d. 4. april og mundtlig prøve d. 12. april 2013.
Reeksamen: Aflevering af skriftlig opgave d. 24. juni og mundtlig prøve d. 28. juni 2013.
