Samlet oversigt over tid og sted for alle kurser inden for Lektionsplan for Det Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet Efterår 2012 NAT
Undervisnings- periode: Week 36-44 and week 47-51 and 1-3
Undervisnings- form: The form of teaching and work will be class teaching with active participation of students by means of student presentations, group-work etc. and field trips
Indhold: Chemical and physical processes in soils in an environmental context with a special emphasis on climate changes, land use changes, nutrient cycling and pollution. Part 1 (blok 1): Introduction and application of advanced field methods for sampling of water, soil and air, to monitor environmental drivers as water content, and quantify greenhouse gas production rates and emissions. Selection of methods, sampling strategy, method validation, error estimates. Cases link directly to biogeochemical cycling and pollution, speciation modelling & mass balance calculations. Part 2 (blok 2): Theoretical background for solute transport processes in soils, element cycling and pollution in the Arctic, soil nutrient dynamics, bioavailability and land use changes in Danish and tropical soils
Kompetence- beskrivelse: Part 1. The aim is to provide an overview of methods and discuss the selection of methods, problems and interpretations. A strong emphasis on “hands on experience” of methods and evaluating update application of environmental studies. Part 2. The aim is to provide a more theoretical and hands-on calculation exercises and discussion. At the end of the course, students will have the necessary background for independent analysis and synthesis of soil in relation to release of nutrients, element cycling and feedbacks to the atmosphere as a result of land use changes, climate changes and pollution.
Målbeskrivelse: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
- identify and apply relevant methods to assess chemical and physical processes in soils related to climate changes, land use changes and pollution.
- describe interacting processes in soil obtained at different temporal and spatial scales
- explain the main elements in the analysis of from various anthropogenic actions
- identify and describe the importance of major processes controlling a range of contrasting biogeochemical processes and net effects in terms of the environmental impact of net release of pollutants, greenhouse gasses and other ..
- identify and explain the limitation and implication of data collected.
- give an oral presentation based on a specific topic and present data in a short and concise report.
