Undervisnings- periode: Week 36-44 and week 47-51 and 1-3
Undervisnings- form: The form of teaching and work will be class teaching with active participation of students by means of student presentations, group-work etc, and excursions.
Indhold: Globalisation, rescaling, urban landscapes, rural landscapees, the built environment, territorialisation, agglomeration economies, knowledge economy, labour markets and employment, governance, planning, agricultural restructuring and rural development
Kompetence- beskrivelse: The course provides an overview of how globalisation, local strategies and the social, political and economical transformations of nation-states, cities, city regions and the countryside are key drivers behind current geographical and societal changes. The course focuses on the geographical consequences of the social, political and economic relations in contemporary urban and rural landscapes. The course has five main themes that together provide the students with a solid theoretical and analytical understanding of the processes of landscape transformation.
1. Globalisation, rescaling and the urbanisation of landscapes: local strategies, landscapes and the built environment
2. Urban and regional economic geography: New spaces of production, localisation, agglomeration economies, economic restructuring, industries, firms and labour markets, agricultural restructuring, rural development
3. Urban social geography: segregation, housing, gender, ethnicity
4. Spatial planning: from government to governance, networks and policy coalitions, new public management, planning strategies and regime theory.
5. Space and place: Conceptualising landscapes, discourses of space and place, the rural transformation and post-productivistic transition, landscape values
Målbeskrivelse: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • provide an overview of how globalisation and rescaling transform urban and rural landscapes and account for and discuss the relations between the main social, political and economical geographical consequences
  • identify the central changes in cities and landscapes and account for the recent political, social and economical transformation of cities and landscapes
  • provide a solid overview of the main changes in the economic and social geographies of cities and landscapes and identify, describe and analyse the new spaces of production, the economic restructuring and the social geographies using key concepts, central theoretical perspectives and empirical material
  • provide an overview of the main changes in spatial planning including the transformation from government to governance and have an understanding of the central theories
  • discuss the main discourses of place and space, conceptualisations of landscapes and landscape values and identify and discuss the main processes of the transformation of rural landscapes including a full understanding of the post-productivistic transition
  • undertake an analysis of the transformation of cities and landscapes using key theories, concepts and empirically material

Eksamensform: Examination form: Oral examination (written report and curriculum) without preparation time Form of assessment: The examination is graded according to the 7-point grading scale. Grading: External examiner appointed by the University Scope: The examination takes 30 minutes, inclusive grading
Make-up exam: As ordinary exam.
Eksamen: The report must be submitted on the 15th of January 2013 at 11am in three copies in room 04.1.411 and the oral examination is between the 22th-25th of January 2013.
Reexam: The report must be submitted on the 15th of April 2013 at 11am in three copies in room 04.1.411 and the oral examination is on the 19th of April 2013.

Bemærkninger: Students can choose to follow block 1 only and get 7.5 ECTS-point. In this case the examination form is the lecturer's approval of an assignment.
