| Indhold: |
Theoretical and practical aspects of seismology, including the application of controlled source and earthquake seismology to the determination of the material properties of the whole Earth; theory and application of the Earth's gravity and its significance for structure and dynamics;electromagnetic theory and the geomagnetic field, including application to geological studies ; geothermal and other types of observation; synthesis of the results from the various methods in terms of the distribution of properties such as density, elasticity, rheology, etc., of material within the Earth; geodynamic modelling of processes such as mantle convection and plate tectonics.

The student shall obtain:
An understanding of the current state-of-the-art physical methods for studying the Earth.
General knowledge of the structure of the Earth.
Information on which our present understanding of the Earth is based, including limitations.
Understanding of current literature on the subject, including skills to present this understanding.
Appreciation of the relation between structure, physical properties, and dynamics of the Earth.
Ability to use basic physical formulas for solving general geophysical problems.

| Målbeskrivelse: |
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
account for the current state-of-the-art physical methods for studying the Earth;
account for the structure of the Earth;
account for the information on which our present understanding of the Earth is based, including limitations;
understand the current literature on the subject, including skills to present this understanding;
account for the relation between structure, physical properties, and dynamics of the Earth;
use basic physical formulas for solving general geophysical problems.

| Eksamensform: |
Oral examination (written report and curriculum) without preparation time. Form of assessment: The examination is graded according to the 7-point grading scale. Grading: external examiner appointed by the University. Scope: The examination takes 30 minutes, inclusive grading. make-up exam: As ordinary exam. |
| Eksamen: |
The report must be submitted on the 15th of January 2013 at 11am in three copies in room 04.1.411 and the oral examination is between the 23th-24th of January 2013.
Reexam: The report must be submitted on the 15th of April 2013 at 11am in three copies in room 04.1.411 and the oral examination is on the 17th of April 2013. |

Students can choose to follow blok 1 only and get 7,5 ECTS-points. In this case the exam assessment is based on teachers’ approval of assignments. |
