Samlet oversigt over tid og sted for alle kurser inden for Lektionsplan for Det Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet Efterår 2012 NAT
Undervisnings- periode: 19. november 2012 til 27. januar 2012
Undervisnings- form: Lectures and home assignments.
Formål: The purpose of the course is to introduce the theory of fluid turbulence to the students.
Indhold: The governing equation, the Navier-Stokes Equation is introduced and analysed with respect to scaling and symmetry characteristics. The role of conservation laws and energy budgets is examined. A probabilistic theory is developed and dimensional analysis and Kolmogorovs 1941 theory is described. Introducing and using tensor analysis the cornerstone 4/5'th law for the correlations function is derived. Modern developments as multi-scaling models and models for intermittency are introduced.
Kompetence- beskrivelse: The students will have a good overview of the huge subject of turbulence and they will have accuired skills in dimensional analysis, gaussian integrations and random variables as well as basic tensor analysis.
Målbeskrivelse: The grade 12 is given to students who clearly demonstrate physical understanding of and the ability to deduce the observed energy spectra using the techniques accured during the course. The grade 2 is givn to students with only the most basic understanding of the phenomenon of turbulence.
