Indhold: |
Behaviour of ions in natural systems; concept of dynamic equilibrium; structure of water, acids/bases, alkalinity; hydration, coordination chemistry, kinetics of geochemical reactions; soil minerals, structure, composition; carbon system, CO2, carbonate equilibria; precipitation/dissolution; formation of solid solution; adsorption/desorption, electrical double layer theory; rock weathering, soil, groundwater, organic substances, trace element behaviour. |
Målbeskrivelse: |
At the end of the course, the student should:
understand the basic processes that control the composition and structure of the surfaces of natural materials
use known thermodynamic and kinetic relationships to describe geochemical systems and know how these relationships were developed
use newly developed skills in critical thinking, problem solving, calculation, interpretation of results and construction of several types of geochemical diagrams, both by hand calculation and with a geochemical speciation program (such as PHREEQ).
have confidence in quantitative concepts, be able to make the assumptions necessary to work with natural systems; determine probable outcome; understand the relative uncertainty introduced by these assumptions.
