Formål: |
To offer students an introduction to International Environmental Law and to make students acquainted with the general features of International Environmental Law as well as more specific areas of regulation within the topic.

Indhold: |
The course is divided into two principal parts
The issues encountered in the first part are principles, definitions, concepts and trends in International Law on Environmental Protection and the interaction with two other dominant international regimes – The World Trade Organisation and International regimes on Law of the Sea. This part will also cover a historical introduction to the evolving regime of International Environmental law.
The issues covered in the second part are devoted to selected global and regional regulatory regimes:
Citizens Rights to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice
Human Rights and Environmental Protection
Combat against Air Pollution, Ozone Depletion and Climate Change
Protection of Nature, Biodiversity and Biosafety
Protection of the High Seas from Oil Pollution and Dumping of Pollutants
Regulation of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Waste
Students are required to participate in the preparation of lectures and urged to take active part in discussions. Individual assignments will be discussed and agreed in the first two lectures.

Kompetence- beskrivelse: |
The objective of the course is to enable the students to:
- Present and explain the theoretical and practical problems of the course subject
- Identify complicated legal problems
- Analyse complex problems within the course subject based on various relevant and professional approaches
- Argue in favour of professional solutions, make a critical weighing of the relevant arguments and make a reasoned choice in relation to theoretical and practical solutions
- Put into perspective the concrete problems of the course subject in a way that shows that she/he has a professional breadth of view in relation to and knowledge about the course subject
- Communicate and formulate her/his knowledge and arguments professionally and linguistically correct and in a way that is structured and coherent

Students must be able to read, speak and understand English at an Academic level.
